Q. Is PRESTO! toxic? |
A. NO. But this doesn't mean you should drink PRESTO! Back to the top. |
Q. Is PRESTO! Flammable? |
A. PRESTO! has no solvent related fire hazards. The only flammable material in PRESTO! is the scent we use to make it smell good. Back to the top. |
Q. Does PRESTO! cause cancer? |
A. There are no known cancer causing ingredients in PRESTO! according to OSHA and IARC. Back to the top. |
Q. Is PRESTO! an irritant? |
A. Possibly, yes. People who are very sensitive to chemicals may be irritated by PRESTO! As with any chemical product, some people may have an allergic reaction to PRESTO! If this happens discontinue using PRESTO! If irritation persists, see a doctor. Back to the top. |
Q. Are there ANY hazards associated with PRESTO!? |
A. If you leave the top off of the PRESTO! bottle, pour it into a pan or transfer it to a non-UV opaque container, PRESTO! will generate a lot of heat to the point of steaming. If this happens, simply avoid touching it until it cools down, Once cool you can dispose of the hard PRESTO! as a non-hazardous solid waste. Back to the top. |
Q. If PRESTO! is so safe, why do you recommend wearing rubber gloves when using PRESTO!? |
A. Just a couple of drops of PRESTO! on your hands will transfer to anything you touch until you wash you hands with soap and water. Back to the top. |
Q. How much area will PRESTO! cover? |
A. You should be able to get up to 100 square feet of coverage with each US fluid ounce of PRESTO! Back to the top.
|
Q. How can one ounce cover so much area? |
A. Because PRESTO! doesn't have anything that will evaporate as you apply it gives you more time to spread it out. Back to the top. |
Q. What do you mean that PRESTO! is 100% solids? Wouldn't that mean PRESTO! is a hard chunk of plastic to start with? |
A. No. "100% Solids" is an industry term which means containing NO Volatile Organic Component (V.O.C.) i.e. solvents, water, alcohol, ect. For example, two part epoxy is 100% solids because mixing the hardener with the resin causes a reaction that hardens the glue nothing evaporates to "dry" the glue. Back to the top. |
Q. So how does PRESTO! dry if it doesn't contain anything that evaporates? |
A. The hardening agent in PRESTO! is activated by the ultraviolet in natural sunlight. Back to the top. |
Q. Old clear coats need a catalyst or hardener to be mix with the resins (like epoxy glue) to harden. Do I have to mix anything to make PRESTO! work? |
A. No. PRESTO! comes ready to use. Simply shake the container to make sure any PTFE that might have settled is mixed evenly before using PRESTO! Back to the top. |
Q. What is "PTFE"? |
A. PTFE is the generic term for "Teflon". The word "Teflon" is trademaked and owned by Dupont and can't be used without paying them to use it. Back to the top. |
Q. Will PRESTO! work indoors? |
A. No. PRESTO! REQUIRES at least some sunlight to harden. Back to the top. |
Q. Will PRESTO! work on cloudy days? |
A. Yes, though it may take longer until it feels dry. Back to the top. |
Q. Can you use PRESTO! on rubber? |
A. No. Rubber absorbs PRESTO! like a sponge. By the time rubber absorbs enough PRESTO! to look good, it's dangerously slick with PRESTO! Back to the top. |
Q. It rained before PRESTO! had a chance to cure dry and it streaked. What do I do? |
A. Check the weather forecast to make sure it won't rain in the next 2 days then simply spot re-apply PRESTO! It should look like you applied it the first time. Back to the top. |
Q. What's the best way to apply PRESTO!? |
A. Use an inexpensive paper towel to apply PRESTO! Avoid the more expensive absorbent paper towels on the market because they absorb PRESTO! too well. Aside from spilling the PRESTO! bottle, this is the leading cause of not achieving maximum coverage per PRESTO! bottle. Back to the top. |
Q. Can I use a squeegee to apply PRESTO!? |
A. Absolutely NOT. This constitutes misapplication of the product and voids all warranties. Back to the top. |
Q. How should I prepare the surface before applying PRESTO!? |
A. Simply wash off general dirt. If you want a HIGHER gloss result, use a WAY FREE buffing compound to remove oxidation before application of PRESTO! Back to the top. |
Q. Can PRESTO! be waxed or painted over? |
A. If desired, Absolutely. Treat it like normal clearcoat. Back to the top. |
Q. I used PRESTO! but the scratch came back a week later. |
A. Properly applied, PRESTO! lays down 0.1 mil of clearcoat. Deep scratches may re-accumulate road dirt and dust which makes them see to come back. Simply washing the car should take care of this problem. If washing the car does't help, spot reapply PRESTO! Back to the top. |
Q. Can PRESTO! Harm the original finish on my car or boat? |
A. No. Because PRESTO! does not contain ANY solvents that can soften or attack the original finish. Back to the top. |
Q. Can I use PRESTO! on latex paint? |
A. No. PRESTO! softens latex paint. Since cars, boats and airplanes are never painted with latex paint, this shouldn't be an issue. Back to the top. |
Q. Can I use PRESTO! in the winter? |
A. Yes, you can use PRESTO! in ALL seasons provided:
-
The surface does not freeze the PRESTO! when you apply it;
-
PRESTO! is allowed to cure in sunlight;
-
The vehicles surface temperature is above 55 degrees F. while PRESTO! cures.
We have many satisfied Canadians in Calgary using PRESTO! all year round. Snow actually speeds the cure because it reflects UV very well. Back to the top. |
Q. Can I use PRESTO! to fix my cracked windshield? |
A. No. PRESTO! is designed NOT to form a strong bond to glass. Back to the top. |
Q. Can I use PRESTO! to remove white wax residue on my black trim? |
A. Yes. Simply wipe PRESTO! on with a paper towel and wipe off any excess. The white residue will not return. Back to the top. |
Q. I applied PRESTO! and it looks like I wiped bacon grease onto my finish. What went wrong? |
A. There's WAY TOO MUCH PRESTO! on the surface. If your're applying PRESTO! and the surface looks greasy, spread it out. You should be able to touch the surface without leaving a streak. Back to the top. |
Q. How long does it take for PRESTO! to become 'dry to the touch'? |
A. Properly applied, PRESTO! will sit just below the edge of scratch and scuff damage. This protects PRESTO! and the treatment will feel dry to the touch immediately. Back to the top. |
Q. How long does it take for PRESTO! to be cured? |
A. Depending on sunlight conditions, PRESTO! will be fully cured in 1 to 48 hours. Back to the top. |
Q. When is the best time to apply PRESTO! ? |
A. The best time to apply PRESTO! is in the morning to give as much daylight to cure it as possible. Avoid applying PRESTO! after 3 pm because sunlight UV levels start to drop off quickly after then. Back to the top. |
Q. I used a sponge to apply PRESTO! and I got no where near the coverage you claim. Why? |
A. PRESTO! is designed to absorb into porous surfaces. Sponges are used to absorb liquids. Most of your PRESTO! in the sponge and not on your car. That's why we recommend non abrasive paper towels to apply PRESTO! Back to the top. |
Q. Do I have to worry about dust or dirt getting stuck in the PRESTO! before it's hard? |
A. No. PRESTO! is applied in such a thin layer that there is not enough of a wet layer for the odd dust fragment to get stuck in. HOWEVER, do not apply PRESTO! near a dusty dirt road or under other extremely dirty conditions. Back to the top. |
Q. I applied PRESTO! and did not like how it looked, how can I remove it? |
A. Before PRESTO! is cured, it can be washed away with soap and water or any common household spray-on cleaner. Back to the top. |
Q. I didn't follow the directions and I poured PRESTO! directly onto my CAR. The PRESTO! cured solid and thick. What do I do? |
A. There are two things you can try:
-
Using a box cutter razor carefully try to pry the PRESTO! off, or;
-
Sand the solid PRESTO! down to the level of the surrounding clear coat.
The best thing it to follow the label directions and apply a few drops TO a paper towel and use the paper to apply the PRESTO! Back to the top. |
Q. I didn't follow the directions and I poured PRESTO! directly onto the oxidized gelcoat on my BOAT. The PRESTO! cured solid and thick. What do I do? |
A. Because old gelcoat is porous, the PRESTO! is most likely anchored solidly in the gelcoat. The only option is to sand the solid PRESTO! down to the level of the surrounding gelcoat.
The best thing it to follow the label directions and apply a few drops TO a paper towel and use the paper to apply the PRESTO! Back to the top. |
Q. I have a LARGE boat. Is there any way to apply PRESTO! in a more efficient way? |
A. Yes. Move the boat indoors where there is insufficient UV to cure PRESTO! ONLY UNDER THESE CONDITIONS you can pour PRESTO! directly onto the surface and have enough time to spread it out before PRESTO! cures. A risky alternative is to apply PRESTO! during a HEAVILY overcast day or per-dawn. Back to the top. |
